What iron actually costs, per pound
Weight equipment is priced by the pound whether sellers admit it or not. Here is what ours works out to, shipping included, next to where the big brands tend to land once their freight is added. We do not name them, because the math speaks without it.

Why shipping is the whole game
A 50 pound dumbbell costs real money to move. Sellers who advertise a low sticker and add freight at checkout are hiding the true per-pound price until you are committed. Every Basalt price includes shipping to the lower 48, so the number you see is the number per pound you pay. On heavy iron, that difference often swings the honest comparison in our favor even when a sticker looks lower elsewhere.
The one thing per-pound math cannot show
Two plates can share a price per pound and still differ by three pounds on the scale. That is the gap the Basalt Ledger exists to close. Cheap per pound means nothing if the pounds are a guess. Ours are weighed, published, and guaranteed within 2 percent.
